An Important Part of Your Healing Protocol: Nervous System Support

There's something you should add to
your healing protocol that is just as important as your supplements, nutrition, and detox work: supporting your nervous system.
If your body has been stuck in "fight or flight" for months (or years), it can be incredibly difficult to fully heal. Your body cannot prioritize repair, digestion, detoxification, hormone balance, and immune function while it believes it's in danger.
The good news? Your brain and nervous system can be retrained.
Your Brain Learns What You Repeat
Thanks to neuroplasticity, your brain is constantly creating and strengthening the pathways you use most often. The thoughts you think, the emotions you rehearse, and the beliefs you repeat literally shape your nervous system.
Your brain doesn't know the difference between something that's happening and something that's vividly rehearsed over and over again.
That's why intentionally practicing safety, gratitude, calm, and healing can become a powerful part of your recovery.
Daily Non-Negotiables
Along with your protocol, try to commit to these daily practices:
Meditation (5 minutes minimum)
This is the only thing I'm asking you to make non-negotiable.
Every single day.
Even if it's only five minutes.
Meditation helps shift your nervous system out of survival mode and into a state where healing can occur. Over time, it actually changes the way your brain responds to stress.
You don't have to "empty your mind." Simply focus on your breath or use a guided meditation.
Healing Affirmations
Especially right after waking up and right before bed, spend a few minutes repeating affirmations in the present tense.
For example:
My body is healing.
Every cell in my body is aligned with health and vitality.
My nervous system feels safe.
I trust my body's ability to heal.
I am healthy, energetic, and thriving.
I look and feel amazing.
These are the times when your subconscious mind is most receptive.
For even greater impact, record yourself speaking these affirmations and listen to them throughout the day, or say them out loud while looking in the mirror.
Somatic Exercises
Our bodies often hold onto stress long after the stressful event has passed. Somatic exercises help complete the stress response and tell your nervous system, "I'm safe now."
Try incorporating one or two of these each day:
• Physiological sighs (two quick inhales followed by one long exhale)
• Gentle body shaking for 1-2 minutes
• Humming or singing to stimulate the vagus nerve
• Slow diaphragmatic breathing (inhale for 4, exhale for 6-8)
• Butterfly hug (cross your arms and gently tap your shoulders alternately)
• A 5-10 minute walk outside while noticing what you see, hear, and feel around you
None of these need to take long. Consistency matters far more than duration.
Other Ways to Calm Your Nervous System
• Get morning sunlight within the first hour of waking.
• Spend time barefoot in nature.
• Prioritize quality sleep.
• Limit doom-scrolling and constant exposure to stressful news.
• Practice gratitude daily by writing down three things you're thankful for.
• Laugh often. Joy is medicine too.
Remember...
Healing isn't just about removing infections, parasites, toxins, or heavy metals.
It's also about teaching your body that it's safe enough to heal.
The more often you practice calm, safety, gratitude, and confidence in your body's ability to recover, the stronger those neural pathways become.
One book I highly recommend if you'd like to learn more about the science of rewiring the brain is Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza.
Your body is always listening.
What are you telling it today?
You've got this.
