The FDA is coming for my thyroid meds — we need to act

As someone who is completely dependent on thyroid medication after having a thyroidectemy when I was still in the matrix, I find the FDA’s latest move deeply alarming. After years of trying different types, doses, and combinations, NP Thyroid is the only medication that’s ever made me feel normal. I know thousands of you can relate.

Now, the FDA is trying to classify Armour, NP Thyroid, and other natural desiccated thyroid (NDT) products as “unapproved drugs.” Let me be clear: these medications are not unsafe. They’ve been in use since 1891, and millions of patients depend on them daily. Labeling them this way only creates barriers, stigma, and unnecessary disruption of vital care.

This isn’t just about regulation - it’s about control. Synthetic T4 (levothyroxine) is not enough for many of us. Our bodies need the full spectrum of thyroid hormones that only natural thyroid provides: T4, T3, T2, T1, and calcitonin. Science backs us up - patient surveys and clinical studies show that patients prefer NDT three times more and often feel better on it than synthetic options.
