When Children Become Patients For Life

A young woman just won a $2M lawsuit against doctors who fast-tracked her into a double mastectomy as a teenager without adequately addressing underlying mental health issues, long-term risks or the possibility of regret.
Many young people diagnosed with gender dysphoria today:
• Already struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma or neurodivergence
• Are often prescribed psychiatric medications before any transition - medications that can alter mood, perception, impulse control and how someone experiences their body and identity
• Are told medical transition will fix the pain despite weak evidence
• Later report worsened mental health, regret and irreversible harm
We require adulthood to get a tattoo, Botox or elective surgery because judgment, impulse control and risk assessment live in the prefrontal cortex, which doesn’t fully mature until around age 25.
Yet we’re allowing children- even pre-puberty - to make permanent, body-altering decisions.
Puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones are not neutral. There are 70,000+ adverse events reported to the FDA, ranging from mild to severe.
Documented and reported concerns include:
Disruption of normal growth and development
Side effects ranging from headaches to serious complications like brain swelling and vision loss
Bone density loss, fertility impairment, cardiovascular and neurological risks
Hormone levels pushed far beyond natural physiological ranges
Unknown long-term effects on the developing brain
Meanwhile, large studies show higher rates of depression, anxiety, substance use and suicidality after medical transition, challenging the claim that it reliably improves mental health.
When interventions carry this level of uncertainty and permanence, especially in children, caution isn’t cruelty, it’s responsibility.
Many detransitioners share similar stories:
• Normal adolescent distress medicalized
• Heavy online influence and social pressure
• Parents told “transition or suicide”
• Fear replacing informed consent
• Speaking out later, only to be silenced/cancelled
Many adults who once struggled with gender distress say they’re deeply grateful these irreversible medical interventions weren’t available when they were children because time, maturity and development changed everything.
Then there's the very toxic terrfain of the standard American. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals in food, water, meds and plastics affect hormones and developing brains.
We’re hearing more and more from people whose gender dysphoria lifted after detoxing and removing hormone-disrupting toxins from their bodies and environment.
If you’ve read this far and are wondering why there’s been such an aggressive push from institutions, clinicians, online spaces and schools - follow the money. Lifelong medical pathways create lifelong prescriptions, procedures and follow-up care.
Before lifelong hormones.
Before irreversible surgery.
Before treating children as medical experiments.
Pause.
Support mental health.
Protect brain development.
Start with the terrain.
Clean up the internal environment.
Detox isn’t a cure-all, but it can clear the noise and restore clarity before permanent decisions are made. Then honor biology - not override it. Because our kids deserve better than rushed protocols and ignored red flags.
