Cysticercosis occurs when a person ingests microscopic eggs of the pork tapeworm, Taenia solium
The eggs hatch in the intestine and larvae can travel through the bloodstream, forming fluid-filled cysts in tissues like muscles, skin, eyes, and even the brain.
Brain involvement is called neurocysticercosis and can cause seizures.
